2006 saw the establishment of the Oxley Creek Taskforce. The representatives on the taskforce come from state and local government departments, community groups and the business sector.

The taskforce is a non statutory body whose main role is to identify the different options available to Brisbane City, Logan and Ipswich Councils to address such matters as:
  • the impact of future development in the Oxley Creek catchment
  • flooding in the catchment
  • creek rehabilitation and
  • the protection and enhancement of green space and wildlife corridors throughout the catchment.
The four main priorities identified by the taskforce were:
  • the rehabilitation and future use of the Readymix site which has recently ceased sand mining
  • the urgent need to stop further erosion of the bed and banks of Oxley Creek upstream of Brookbent Road
  • the importance of retaining and enhancing the green space and wildlife linkages in the catchment and
  • sustainable communities - what are sustainable communities and how do they work.
